What is Around Me?
Around Me Beta lets you discover if people in your network are nearby. Simply tap on the Discover People icon to activate the new proximity feature.
Who can discover my profile?
You always maintain full control of who can discover you. Around Me privacy controls can be found in your profile main page. When set to Private only the people in your current MeetVibe network can discover you. When set to Public you can be discovered by all MeetVibe users within range.
What is the discovery range?
The Around Me feature distance range averages from 150 feet to 250 feet (50 to 75 meters). This range can vary depending upon battery charge, environmental factors such as walls, electrical interference and the number of other active Bluetooth devices within range.
How are the MeetVibe profiles sorted in the Around Me area?
In most instances, the closest phones will be listed first and the furthest phones listed last. Discovered profiles are sorted based on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a measurement of the power of the received Bluetooth signal, which can be used to approximate the distance from the originating iDevice.
What permissions do I need to enable for the MeetVibe app?
To enjoy full functionality of the MeetVibe app, enable the following settings:
- Location: Always
- Bluetooth Sharing
- Background App Refresh
- Cellular Data (if applicable)
What if my phone is set on Airplane mode?
The Around Me feature will not work if your device is set on Airplane mode, even if the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings are enabled.
Why Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)?
Bluetooth Low Energy is 60-80% more efficient than traditional Bluetooth. The BLE technology ensures that your battery will not be drained when enabling this feature.
What devices are supported?
The Around Me Beta feature requires:
- Operating system iOS8 or later
- iPhone 4s or later
- iPad (3rd generation or later)
- iPad mini or later
- iPod touch (5th generation or later)
Around Me stopped detecting when I know others are nearby?
Some older phones and iPads stop detecting Bluetooth signals and require a reset. Turn the Mobile phone Bluetooth Setting off and then back on again to resolve this problem.
Should I sign out before installing the update?
We recommend that you Sign Out before installing the app update. The Sign Out button can be found at the bottom of My Profile screen.
Why can’t I suggest a new date or time for a MeetVibe I was invited too?
Updating for group invites is limited to the organizer. For 1:1 MeetVibes, both the organizer and invitee are able to suggest changes to the time, location, and meeting details. The update feature can be found by swiping right on the MeetVibe you would like to alter and clicking Update.
